Answer: Invasive squamous cell carcinoma with ductal carcinoma in situ
Histology: none provided
Discussion: Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast is a form of metaplastic carcinoma arising from areas of squamous metaplasia. To be called squamous cell carcinoma, the latter has to constitute 90% of the tumor mass. A metastasis from other organs (lung, cervix etc.) should be ruled out. In this case the presence of DCIS highly favors a primary site. Although very rarely reported, it is believed however that the tumor behaves similar to invasive ductal carcinoma stage for stage and in fact lymph node metastases were found less frequently in primary squamous cell carcinoma. Treatment is controversial since these tumors do not respond well to conventional breast chemotherapy.
