Answer: Hepatoblastoma
Histology: This neoplasm is composed of a mixture of two cell types. Some neoplastic hepatocytes are arranged in irregular laminae (fetal) while others grow in a more embryonal pattern.
Discussion: Hepatoblastomas occur almost always in children. 90% are diagnosed before the age of 5 years. They are usually large and single. Several histologic patterns of growth can be seen, often recapitulating the differentiation seen in fetal liver. Some cancers show mesenchymal differentiation and others have an associated extramedullary hematopoiesis.
