Answer: Sinus histiocytosis after hip replacement
Histology: The sinuses of this node are distended with numerous pigment containing macrophages.
Discussion: Sinus histiocytosis of the pelvic lymph nodes owes in some patients following hip replacement. The lymph nodes often have a black-brown cut surface and microscopically numerous histiocytes containing dark microparticles. These microparticles are composed of cobalt-chromium and titanium.
