Answer: Solitary fibrous tumor
Histology: see below
Discussion: The tumor has the typical morphology of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) in a very unusual location. Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) has been described in the esophagus in one previous case report only. Morphologically it is composed of spindle cells with hypocellular and hypercellular areas, fibrous collagenous keloid like stroma, hemangiopericytoma like vascular pattern, storiform pattern and short fascicles. It is positive for CD34, a marker that can be positive in other mesenchymal tumors. SFT is CD34 positive and does not stain with c-kit.
