Answer: Schwannoma with xanthomatous change
Histology: none provided
Discussion: The tumor is composed of spindle cells admixed with prominent foamy macrophages. The spindle cells are palissading and forming verocay bodies very focally and more haphazardly arranged in other areas. Both areas do not show significant mitoses or atypia. An S100 protein immunostain labels the spindle cells strongly and diffusely and CD68 labels the foamy macrophages. The xanthomatous change appears to be extensive in this case, however this has been previously described and do not affect the treatment and prognosis.
