Answer: Oncocytoma
Histology: none provided
Discussion: Sections show a predominantly solid proliferation of large uniform polygonal shaped cells with abundant dense pink eosinophilic cytoplasm. The tumor is well circumscribed and has a pushing border. Mitotic figures are absent and no necrosis is present. The majority of oncocytomas are in the parotid gland. Oncytomas are benign tumors that are cured by local excision. The differential diagnosis includes multinodular oncocytic hyperplasia or oncocytosis, oncocytic carcinoma (very rare tumor that exhibits cytologic atypia, mitotic activity and infiltrative growth), and metastatic oncocytic tumors.
